Welcome to the weekly guide to the known Doctor Who TV and radio broadcasts around the world. It's a busy week, so let's get started.

UK - UK Gold 2 appears to be resuming its 6PM replay of the Sunday UK Gold Doctor Who broadcasts, beginning with this weekend's airing of The Claws of Axos. Hopefully this will be a permanent resumption.

NEW ZEALAND - Hmm. Well, Prime TV was going to air Doctor Who and the Silurians in colour. Something must have happened, however, because they wound up airing the Black & White version. A shame that Prime TV viewers won't get to see the excellent colourization job on the story. It remains to be seen what this will mean when the other restored colour stories (Terror of the Autons and The Daemons) come up. At least early Pertwee also looks good in Black & White, a result of selling the stories in both formats in the 70s.

USA - MPT in Maryland is doing fans a good turn in October. On October 28th, Doctor Who is being promoted from Midnight to 11:30PM. If this is a permanent change, then it will be the first time the show will have had a regular start time before Midnight on MPT since August 1998. Good work, MPT.

USA - WQED's listings in the column have been wrong for the last two weeks due to my error. I forgot that they were pre-empting the show on Saturday September 16 for a concert, so they are 2 episodes behind what I was reporting. It is now corrected.

USA - WYBE's listing in the column was wrong last week due to WYBE getting the tapes mixed up again. They were supposed to air episodes 3+4 of The Keeper of Traken. Instead, they aired episode 4 of The Keeper of Traken, followed by episode 4 of Full Circle. Full Circle episode 4 has now aired 3 times, once out of order before Full Circle episode 3, once in order after Full Circle episode 3, and now a bit out of place. While WYBE seems incapable of checking their tapes in advance to make sure they air the right shows, they do always go back and try to fix it. So, expect the last 2 episodes of Keeper Of Traken to air this weekend. (it was confirmed they didn't!)

USA - KTEH's live, local Doctor Who Night in San Jose, CA is less than 3 weeks away now. Carole Ann Ford, Sylvester McCoy, popular episodes, and lots of local references, live on KTEH Wednesday October 18th from 8PM to 11:15PM Pacific Time. As of this time, this special is only going to air in San Jose.

USA - Now, as to the National Doctor Who Night, news has been hard to come by for several weeks. The details are still being worked on as of press time. The special is scheduled to record on October 21st at WQED's studios in Pittsburgh, PA. Nicholas Courtney and Sylvester McCoy will be the guests for the three hour event, and episodes from their eras will be included. It will be tape-delayed everywhere instead of live as hoped at one point. The 14 PBS affiliates in the US airing the series have the rights to acquire the special, and most will presumably schedule it once the details are finally dealt with. WYBE in Philadelphia, PA and MPT Maryland have tentatively scheduled it for October 21st, the day it is taped.

The DaSilva package of Tom Baker stories in 1978 was not the first attempt to sell Doctor Who to the Americans. First, there was a package of Jon Pertwee stories in the early 70s. This story may have been intended to attract viewers in America, with American agent Bill Filer having so much to do in the story. Alas, his accent is terrible, sending Americans out of the room screaming in pain. Think of it this way - had Bill's accent been less scary, he could have become a regular.

Last rerun in 1991. Episode 1 exists in colour, but it is unknown at publication time if Prime TV will get that version, which has never aired in New Zealand. Episode 2 only exists in Black & White. The Doctor is called in to find out what happened to the British astronauts who went to Mars. The capsule is coming back, but no contact has been heard from them in eight months.
