Press Release:
The TARDIS materialises in Martha's (Freema Agyeman) flat and the Doctor (David Tennant) is about to leave when Martha's mother Francine (Adjoa Andoh) phones to say that Martha's sister Tish (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) is on television. There, alongside Tish, is an elderly man, Professor Richard Lazarus (Mark Gatiss) who announces that tonight he will change what it means to be human. The Doctor decides to stay.
That night Martha and the Doctor attend Professor Lazarus's reception where the Doctor meets Martha's family. Lazarus steps into a manipulator's capsule but as technicians operate the machine, the Doctor notices that the system is overloaded and jumps in to avert a disaster. Lazarus emerges, looking decades younger. His experiment appears to have been a success but the Doctor is certain there are dangers the Professor has overlooked. Lazarus dismisses the Time Lord's warnings.
When Lazarus refuses to rejuvenate his business partner Lady Thaw (Thelma Barlow) in the Genetic Manipulation Device and she threatens to complain to their financial backer Mr Saxon (Bertie Carvel), an enraged Lazarus transforms into a large, scorpion-like monster…and a battle for survival begins.
PRODUCTION DETAILS:
Doctor Who is a BBC production in association with CBC. This episode was written by Stephen Greenhorn, directed by Richard Clark and produced by Phil Collinson. Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner are executive producers.
