For those who like to do the math, we have 19 stations signed up at
last report. 17 of the 45 stations who eventually signed up for
Series 1. 2 new stations. 1 new TV market. 1 station that also airs
Classic Who (Iowa Public TV).

Stations can sign up anytime and more may have done so since this
list was prepared. I personally expect the list to grow a bit. Time
will tell. But there is no guarantee that Series 2 will have as many
stations signed up as Series 1 did. Remember - the stations usually
base their decision to renew on how well the episodes did in pledge
drives (if they were pledged) and the ratings. The fact that SciFi
edits badly and BBC America cuts off the left and right sides of the
image, leaving the public TV version to only way to see Series 2 in a
decent form on US TV - not a factor in renewal. If a station was
disappointed, they might wait longer to decide to buy new episodes,
bury the show in graveyard time slots, or just quietly walk away.

David Thiel, program director at WILL, has some advice for what to do
if your station is not on the list.

"What to do if your station isn't listed? Contact them, of course...
BUT, keep in mind that these days there's a perception that "Who"
fans demand a great deal but don't follow through at pledge time.
Don't berate, don't talk about things only a fan would understand,
don't threaten to never send another check (this goes twice if you've
never actually sent a check before; yes, we keep records.) Be polite,
be understanding, and demonstrate your good faith by making a
financial contribution at no less than the minimum membership level.
Ideally, send a real, stamped letter that can be physically passed
around and put in the station's public file... and attach a check.
And get two friends to do the same."

I would not expect WTVP 47 Peoria, IL http://www.wtvp.org to make a decision on Series 2 until they know if they will continue to exist in their current form - details on the {WTVP web site. Bank of America and Commerce Bank have called in loans. WTVP did a pledge fundraiser during the last month to put together a deal to refinance the debt and keep from losing the station. As of January 11, 2008, the website indicates that the money raised and debt restructuring offered was rejected. They have contact information for the banks involved if you live in the WTVP community.

As of this writing, 45* stations are known to have bought the 2005
series of Doctor Who (the 13 Christopher Eccleston episodes), while
19 stations are known to have bought the 2006 series (David Tennant's
first batch). Many of the public TV stations have also gotten the Cut
Down versions of Doctor Who Confidential Series 1 (as seen on the DVD
set). Stations have the right to cycle through Series 1 for 4 times
before February 28, 2009. They can cycle through Series 2 for 4 times
between April 1, 2008 and March 31, 2010. If you are happy that your
station is airing Doctor Who, write them a letter or send them an e-
mail. (Maybe even keep an eye out for a pledge drive.)

*The 2 new stations may or may not have bought Series 1 broadcast
rights. If they have, this figure will increase.

If Series 3 becomes available to public TV stations, it will be after
the episodes have aired on BBC America. BBC America airs Series 3
from January 26 to April 19 2008.

4 Public TV stations currently have rights to air the classic Doctor Who run (1963-1989). Iowa Public TV is currently airing both Series 1 and Peter Davison episodes. KBTC 28 Tacoma, WA, Maryland Public TV, and WCET 48 Cincinnati, OH are airing Tom Baker episodes while resting Series 1.

One station has, to the best of our knowledge, used all their rights to the Series 1 package already - WLVT 39 Allentown, PA. If they air Series 1 again, then that means they re-bought the package or I misunderstood the meaning of cycling through the episodes 4 times. WILL 12 Urbana, IL, Iowa Public TV, and Idaho Public TV are currently on their 4th and presumably final cycle of Series 1.
