Outpost Gallifrey http://www.gallifreyone.com reports that South Korean public broadcaster KBS http://www.kbs.co.kr has bought rights to air the new Doctor Who series on Saturday nights at 11:15PM starting 4 June. Outpost Gallifrey did not note whether the Doctor would air on KBS1 or KBS2, and as I don't know how to read Korean I have not been able to find any announcement on the website about the purchase. The listings through 5 June should go up on 30 May at which point we can be certain which channel got the show. Here's hoping that Doctor Who wins the approval of South Korean viewers. KBS has an English language site http://english.kbs.co.kr , but that site does not have the TV listings for the channels.
TV2 in Finland http://www.yle.fi/tv2 has also purchased Doctor Who. This public broadcaster airs English language shows in English with subtitles. No premiere date yet. The report came out at http://www.yle.fi/mobiiliuutiset/uutiset/pop_p7.html (might drop off that page soon):

"BBC:n Doctor Who TV2:lle

"Yle on hankkinut BBC:lt? aikanaan kulttiohjelmaksi nousseen nuorten sci-fi-sarja Doctor Whon. BBC on tuottanut sarjasta n?ytt?v?n uuden version, joka n?hd?n TV2:lla."

Translated into English:

"BBC's Doctor Who on TV2

"Yle has purchased the rights to Doctor Who, the cult youth sci-fi series, from the BBC. The BBC has produced an impressive new version which will be shown on TV2."

Thanks to Kristopher Lawson for catching this news and the translation.
Doctor Who performed very well on the ABC http://www.abc.net.au/tv in Australia, getting between 1.1 and 1.2 million viewers. It won its time slot in some cities (how many cities seems to be in dispute at the moment while sports results in some regions are being tallied). Doctor Who's results are evidently a noticeable increase on the results for the past season of Monarch Of The Glen, which co-starred ex-Doctor Tom Baker.
For those who were curious, the ABC aired Doctor Who in 16:9 widescreen on their HD digital channel (Doctor Who was not in HD), while the analogue version of ABC aired Doctor Who in the 14:9 cropped letterbox version that analogue BBC One viewers get. The 14:9 compromise cuts a small bit off the left and right sides of the image and leaves smaller black bars on the top and bottom of a 4:3 TV. On a 16:9 TV, you also have black bars on the left and right hand side of the screen when watching the analogue transmission of the show. Doctor Who is filmed 14:9 safe on the assumption that it will air in that format in some countries. The CBC in Canada airs Doctor Who in 16:9 for both digital and analogue viewers.
BBC One's http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcone broadcast of The Empty Child
on 21 May. Yes, it began at 6:30PM as warned. No, nothing was cut
from the broadcast that was reinstated on later showings - a sound
effect was cut by the makers of the show some time back as they
thought it made a scene too intense. The Empty Child would have
looked the same had it aired at its regular 7PM start time. In spite
of the unusual start time, Doctor Who achieved overnight ratings of
6.6 million - the lowest of the series to date, but a very good
result. It outperformed its primary competition on ITV (Star Wars I:
The Phantom Menace (repeat airing) - 3.5 million viewers) on the
weekend Star Wars III premiered in UK theatres (and most of the rest
of the world). Hopefully good word of mouth and a return to the 7PM
start time will see even better results for part 2 (The Doctor
Dances) this Saturday.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/news/drwho/2005/05/23/19514.shtml has a
casting update for the 2nd season of Doctor Who. If you are trying
to avoid all news about the 2nd season, do not click on that link.
KUED 7 Salt Lake City, UT kued.org">http://www.kued.org has put "TBA" (to be announced) in the Doctor Who time slot for 11, 18, and 25 June (the next 3 times Doctor Who would have aired). It looks like the series has been dropped altogether, though we do not have final confirmation. Other US stations in recent months were reporting that they had been unable to renew contracts with the series. {c{138=Maryland Public TV http://www.mpt.org and Iowa Public TV http://www.iptv.org haven't reached the end of their contracts, and those 2 stations continue airing Doctor Who into June.
Last week Joey Reynolds asked for questions for Noel Clarke (Mickey
on Doctor Who), who he would be interviewing for Sci-Fi Overdrive
http://www.scifioverdrive.com and American Who
http://www.americanwho.net . The American Who version of the
interview may be up as soon as today as a special edition. Any
version for Sci-Fi Overdrive would be next weekend or later - that
show is in repeats for Memorial Day in the US.
Press releases about international Doctor Who sales when they happen
should appear at the BBC Press Office
http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice and C21 Media
http://www.c21media.net . Having said that, neither one of them has
caught the South Korea or Finland purchases yet.
