This Week In Doctor Who - November 16, 2001

120 years ago last month, a gunfight occured in Tombstone, Arizona between the Earps and the Clantons. This became known as the "Gunfight At The OK Corral". In 1966 it served as the inspiration for a Doctor Who story by Donald Cotton - The Gunfighters. It was late in the time of the 1st Doctor, with Steven and Dodo as the companions. As an interesting twist, important plot points in each episode were introduced by verses of a ballad specially composed for the story - "The Ballad Of The Last Chance Saloon". This was decades before the musical episodes of Xena and Buffy. The ballad is hated by many Doctor Who fans for being "too silly", though personally I like it.

Just for fun, this edition of This Week In Doctor Who is written to the tune of the ballad used in The Gunfighters. Even if you haven't seen the story, work at it a little, and you should be able to sing along ...
