New Sci-Fi News Program Preparing To Premiere, Additional Stations Airing NationalDoctorWhoNight2000National Who Night, And Howard DaSilva's Narration To Get New Life Here. |
|
Joey Reynolds is beginning a sci-fi news program in West Palm Beach, FL. It will air on WPBR 1340 AM Sunday nights from 11:05PM to Midnight beginning November 19th. Heavy Doctor Who coverage is promised, particularly on November 26th, when Joey's show is devoted to Doctor Who's 37th anniversary. The program is called Interstellar Transmissions Radio Program. The radio station does not yet have a web feed, but people curious in this endeavor can check Joey's website at http://hometown.aol.com/scifiradioguy/ITradio.html . It could be fun. |

More Who Night Stations. I was surprised and pleased to read in the Alliance Newsletter that WYIN 56 in Gary, IN now plans to air the Nationwide Who Night filmed in Pittsburgh last month. To that I can add KBTC/KCKA/K65BU 28,15,65 Tacoma/Centralia/Gray's River, WA. So, now 8 of the 15 PBS stations with contracts to air Doctor Who either have aired or will air the special. And I wouldn't be surprised if one or two others have signed up quietly without being noticed yet. Sylvester McCoy gets to play those sporks to an ever wider audience. The current 8 affiliates:

This Week will be adding a new feature with next week's edition. When the Tom Baker episodes came to America in 1978, the initial 98 episodes were narrated by Howard DaSilva. While the editing done on the episodes is not well appreciated today, the narration is. To tie in with WILL 12 Urbana, IL's acquisition of the Tom Baker episodes, I am adapting the transcripts of Howard's voiceover work into the episode synopses for that station's broadcasts. For the early generation of US fandom, it's a reminder of how you first saw the show. For those of us who started watching in the mid-80s or later, we probably never heard this material, and it's a chance to experience a different, forgotten flavor of the show. Thanks to TJ Lubinsky for the transcripts. |
|
Note to people who will watch Doctor Who on WILL - I really want to go through all 98 narrations. Please keep the support up so WILL doesn't give up and drop the show before we finish. |

Fans of the Dead Ringers comedy show on BBC Radio 4 will want to know that a new set of episodes begins next Friday (17 November). The show features parodies of celebrities past, present, and future, and usually gets in at least one or two good Doctor Who related pieces in. BBC Radio 4 is on the FM dial in the UK, longwave radio heading into Europe, and through a realaudio program of theirs that you can log into at their website - http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/ . The show appears to be at the same time as the previous sets of episodes - Fridays at 6:30PM GMT (1:30PM EST, 10:30AM PST, Saturday 7:30AM AEDT), rerunning Saturdays at 12:30PM GMT (7:30AM EST, 4:30AM PST, 11:30PM AEDT). The show should run until Christmas. |
|
Apparently WQED in Pittsburgh ran the special Resistance Is Useless on October 28 instead of The Invasion of Time episode 1, and episodes 1 & 2 of The Invasion of Time on November 4. The information for WQED should be right as of this edition. |

MPT Maryland 22,28,31,36,62,67 http://www.mpt.org/ Sat 11:30PM EST Vengeance on Varos movie A TARDIS breakdown forces the 6th Doctor and Peri to land on the nearest planet with Zeiton-7 ore. Alas, it is a planet with a barbaric prison system, where executions are televised entertainment. There is a very effective cliffhanger half-way through the story which you probably won't be able to spot in the movie version. But if you want to try, pay attention about 44 minutes in where the Governor says "cut". Create the mental image of the closing credits starting right there, and see what you think. |
