Goodbye, KSPS? USA - Mustafa Hirji in Alberta, Canada learned some potentially bad news about the future of Doctor Who on KSPS 7 in Spokane, Washington, a station which sends the Doctor into portions of several US states and much of Western Canada. After airing Doctor Who continuously since 1987, KSPS may be considering pulling the show. From: "Cary Balzer" CaryB@sd81.k12.wa.us: "With the Sylvester McCoy episodes coming to closure, the future of Dr. Who on KSPS-TV is a topic of discussion. Our discussions are based on balancing the mission of our programming with the acquistion and operational costs of this series. The lack of new programs and an increase of the acquistion cost of the series indicate it may be time to give the series a rest." KSPS airs the movie format versions of the stories every Saturday night at 10:30PM PST (11:30PM MST). Their practice has been to go from the beginning of Pertwee to the end of McCoy, and repeat. |

US - In better news, Dan McGrath announced that KTCA 2 St. Paul, MN has just ordered 50 more episodes of the series, keeping the show on the air for another year and through at least episode 2 of The Ribos Operation. KTCA is planning to have a mini-marathon/pledge drive on March 4. Doctor Who has performed better than KTCA expected. Its lead-in, Red Dwarf, has actually underperformed, pulling in much less money than in the past. Mr. McGrath runs the Red Dragon Hobby store, one of Doctor Who's sponsors on KTCA. |

UK - BBC2's Doctor Who reruns should see an increase in quality with this week's broadcast (Genesis Of The Daleks 4). The Doctor Who Restoration Team (video release of The War Machines, colour-restored Pertwee stories, Five Doctors Special Edition, etc.) is checking all the scheduled episodes over and touching things up before they air, something that did not happen for Genesis Of The Daleks 2+3 for some reason. |

Ideally, the Doctor must leave before he can have any effect on the timeline. But if he leaves, the final remnants of the human race will be eliminated. This is a later start time than Doctor Who has had for a little while, and it might be permanent, as Blake's 7 is back on UK Gold's schedule, airing just before Doctor Who. Oddly, UK Gold will air the same Blake's 7 episode that BBC2 will show just a few hours earlier on Saturday. Maybe UK Gold wants viewers to notice that the helmets in Frontios are the same as the ones used in Blake's 7.
