"The Long Game" episode of Doctor Who screens on ABC TV on Saturday July 2 and sees Adam Mitchell (Bruno Langley) the young computer genius we met last week join the Doctor (Christopher Eccleston) and Rose Tyler (Billie Piper) on their travels. But does this I.T. prodigy have the wits and bravery to be a time traveller? Being the Time Lord's companion isn't as easy as it may look.

It is the year 200,000. Satellite Five is a huge broadcasting system - a news agency, transmitting information to a million worlds in the Human Empire. Something is wrong at Satellite Five. The Doctor and Rose are caught up in a subtle invasion of the Empire based on the premise that information is power. As the Doctor observes "This society's the wrong shape - even the technology". But there are no complaints from Adam who hooks up with an accommodating neurosurgeon (Tamsin Greig - Black Books).

Simon Pegg (Shaun in Shaun of the Dead, also seen in 'Band of Brothers' and 'Big Train') provides the villainy as "The Editor" who manages Satellite Five and is employed to manipulate news, and with it, the future of the Great and Bountiful Human Empire. Also introduced in this episode, are Eva Saint Julienne aka Suki Macrae Cantrell (Anna Maxwell-Martin- Bessie in 'North and South'), Adam's Mum, (Judy Holt) and The Mighty Jagrafess of the Holy Hadrojassic Maxarodenfoe: a wet, pulsating mountain of red meat, sixty feet tall, faceless but breathing. The Mighty Jagrafess is built into the wall with pipes plumbed into it.
