On 13 May episode 2-05 Rise of the Cybermen had its premiere on BBC One at 7:23PM BST (last minute time change due to a sport match running long). It had overnight results of approximately 8.6 million viewers. The story concludes in The Age of Steel this Saturday 20 May at 6:35PM on BBC One (early time due to the Eurovision concert - remember it's starting early). If you are not a fan of spoilers, stay away from descriptions of The Age Of Steel until you are able to see the episode. |
The final ratings for the 6 May episode 2-04 "The Girl In The Fireplace" showed an average of 7.9 million viewers, an increase of 500,000 on the overnight numbers. |
There are unconfirmed reports that Netherlands broadcaster Nederland 3 http://portel.omroep.nl/ned3 will finally begin airing Series One of Doctor Who on Saturday 10 June. No information on their website at this time. |
Hong Kong broadcaster ATV World http://www.hkatv.com/world/05 completed its run of Series One on Sunday 14 May. It is unknown if they will purchase Series Two. |
Spain & Portugal Doctor Who fans will get to see the last 3 episodes of Series One - eventually. Digital Plus channel People + Arts finishes its repeat of the first 10 episodes on the weekend of 1 through 4 June. Starting 4 June, episodes will repeat at 1:30AM most nights beginning with Rose. Boom Town will air at 1:30AM late Sunday 18 June. Bad Wolf will air at 1:30AM late Monday 19 June. The Parting of the Ways will air at 1:30AM late Tuesday 20 June. The series will begin repeating again on 21 June. I don't know why they skipped these last 3 episodes the first 2 times they aired the series. |
BBC Three is having a repeat of the first half of Series Two beginning Monday 22 May. Episodes air weeknights at 7PM for 1 week. The Friday 9PM repeat on 26 May will apparently be Rise Of The Cybermen, when it would normally be The Age Of Steel. The Sunday 7PM repeat on 28 May will apparently be The Age Of Steel, when it would normally be The Idiot's Lantern. I would not be surprised if they made more changes to this schedule shortly. |
SciFi http://www.scifi.com in the US will have a mini-marathon of Doctor Who episodes on Friday June 16, the week after The Parting of the Ways airs on the channel. The marathon is from 8PM to 3AM Eastern, and consists of 4 episodes, 3 of them airing twice. 8PM & Midnight - Aliens of London 9PM & 1AM - World War Three 10PM & 2AM - Dalek 11PM only - The Long Game Marathons of other sci-fi shows air on June 23 and 30. Doctor Who will probably not repeat on Fridays due to the start of a new season of SciFi Friday programming in July - July schedule information is not out yet. Father's Day airs on Sunday June 25 at 11PM, suggesting that SciFi may do a repeat run on Sunday nights this Summer. |
As of this writing, no broadcasters outside the UK have revealed the dates when Series Two will begin airing. It will air around the world - but patience is needed. |
I will be away the next 2 weeks, leaving this column in the capable hands of Jefferson Eng. Lisa and I are getting married Saturday and heading off on a Honeymoon! I'll be back with the column on June 7, probably making some slight tweaks to TWIDW. Jefferson can be reached at this thisweekindoctorwho-owner e-mail address listed below. If you have a contact e-mail address for me with comcast.net , change Comcast to Verizon, as the Comcast account may no longer work. |
Have a great couple of weeks, everyone! |
The BBC Press Office http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice and C21 Media http://www.c21media.net often announce when a Doctor Who international sale occurs. Worth keeping an eye on, just in case. |
