Thursday 13 April:
BBC One 5PM BST - Totally Doctor Who - Series Premiere!
Saturday 15 April:
CBBC 6:30PM BST - Totally Doctor Who (encore)
BBC One 7PM BST - New Earth (Series 2 Premiere!)
BBC Three 7:45PM BST - DrWho Confidential: New New Doctor (Series 2
Premiere!)
Russian channel STS added the new Doctor Who to their weekday
afternoon lineup on Monday 27 March. At 13 episodes I imagine the
run will be short or contain repeats. Welcome to Russia as the
latest Doctor Who country. Doctor Who is being called Doktor Kto,
which means Doctor Who.
SKAI TV in Greece, which also bought Doctor Who, goes on the air for the first time this Saturday. There do not seem to be any TV listings for the station available at this time, so it is too soon to tell when Doctor Who will arrive on that channel.
Series 2 had its press event in Cardiff on Tuesday, and the
publicity expected to emerge from the event is under an embargo
until Thursday 30 March. Doctor Who Magazine has officially
confirmed (widely suspected previously) that the new Doctor Who
episodes will premiere on BBC One on Saturday 15 April at 7PM. New
Doctor Who Confidential behind the scenes episodes premiere right
afterwards on BBC Three. Mark Gatiss (writer of The Unquiet Dead)
takes over as host of the show in place of Simon Pegg. Totally
Doctor Who premieres on Thursday 13 April at 5PM on BBC One, with a
repeat on CBBC on Saturday 15 April at 6:30PM, right before the new
series starts on BBC One. Details on the exact content of Totally
Doctor Who should come out in the press info tomorrow. There should
also be details explaining the "Webisodes" or "Tardisodes" - several
minutes of exclusive content for each episode that you download to
your mobile phone.
In the leadup to the new set of episodes, digital station BBC Four http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcfour will air the 1973 Jon Pertwee story The Green Death at 2 episodes per day from 3 to 5 April at 7:10PM. This also ties in to their themed week of 1973 programming as a repeat run of Life On Mars begins on that channel. BBC Three http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree begins a repeat of Series 1 (starring Christopher Eccleston) on Thursday 6 April, running 2 episodes on weeknights through 14 April. On Sunday 9 April BBC Three is doing a 3 hour "Doctor Who Night" - content unclear, but since it claims to feature David Tennant and Billie Piper we can guess that it is not the 1999 Doctor Who Night from BBC Two. UKTV Gold also repeats the ChristopherEccleston season on 8 and 9 April.
SciFi http://www.scifi.com in the US has made revisions to its Doctor Who schedule again. As of this writing, last week's episode - The Unquiet Dead - will air late tonight at 1AM Eastern, Thursday at 10AM Eastern, and Friday at 8PM Eastern (right before Aliens of London premieres). A repeat of The End Of The World has been added Friday at 3PM Eastern. It is unknown how long these bonus broadcasts will pop up on the schedule, but they do sound like a vote of confidence in the show. Viewers of Dark Kingdom report seeing a trailer for the SciFi drama Eurekea stating that it will premiere this Summer. Eureka is expected to be part of SciFi Friday. If SciFi decides to renew Doctor Who, it now is apparent that Series 2 could air no earlier than this Fall, if not 2007.
Canadian viewers who enjoyed Doctor Who 10 days after the episodes
aired in the UK last year are in for a disappointment if they
expected the same this year. CBC TV http://www.cbc.ca/television
will be airing hockey playoffs through the Spring (the only reason
they didn't last year is due to the hockey strike). Doctor Who will
presumably air in the Summer or Fall - probably the Fall due to the
larger potential pool of viewers and how well it performed for CBC
in 2005. Time will tell the truth, though.
The US & Canada will switch to Daylight Savings Time on Sunday 2
April. If you live in a part of the US that is not switching or
trying to catch a TV/radio/online program from those countries bear
the change in mind from that date. At 1AM Sunday it will become 2AM
Sunday.
The BBC Press Office http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice and C21 Media
http://www.c21media.net often announce when a Doctor Who
international sale occurs. Worth keeping an eye on, just in case.
