ABC Australia http://www.abc.net.au/tv now has Doctor Who's premiere on its schedule for Saturday 21 May 2005 at 7:30PM. On the schedule for 21 May and the episode description linked from that schedule the series has the tag line Adventures In The Human Race, indicating that it may be labeled differently from the earlier 26 years of Doctor Who, which air on the same station Mondays through Thursdays at around 6PM. Episodes will air in Australia 8 weeks after their UK premieres. The 7:30PM Saturday time slot currently features Monarch Of The Glen series 6 (co-starring Tom Baker). Very Little Britain (abbreviated versions of Little Britain episodes) will air at 8:15PM. 8:30PM on ABC Saturday is The Bill, a British cop show/soap that wins its time slot. |
Thomsonfly Airlines starts airing Rose on their flights starting this Sunday. If you fly one of their planes, see if there's any information on how long Rose will air, and when/if they would cycle to later episodes. Better yet, if you work for this airline, and you know, please e-mail! |
Overnight UK ratings show that Doctor Who: World War Three won its time slot easily, 7.26 million to 3.8 million for the premiere of Celebrity Wrestling. Celebrity Wrestling fell noticeably from former ITV competitor Ant and Dec Saturday Night Takeaway. This week's episode (Dalek) is being heavily trailed, and is expected to win in the ratings again. I can only imagine who one of the alien species in the episode will be. |
Final numbers for the 16 April broadcast (Aliens Of London) are expected today from Barb http://www.barb.co.uk and will reveal if Doctor Who or the season finale of Ant and Dec won the time slot that night. In the overnight ratings Ant and Dec had won by a slight margin (7.12 million to 6.98 million). Video recordings will determine who wins in the final tally. |
BBC Three's http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree schedule remains somewhat erratic. The late Saturday repeats for Dalek and "Doctor Who Confidential: The Daleks" will now start at 12:15AM and 1AM respectively. The Sunday repeat of Confidential at 7:45PM will be abridged to 15 minutes for the premiere of Tiny Tearaways http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree/tv/tiny_tearaways/index.shtml . Tiny Tearways is a special monthly documentary airing 7 days a week on BBC Three. Sundays through Fridays the episodes air at 8PM with repeats later in prime time and late night. On Saturdays the episodes air at 8:15PM (after Doctor Who Confidential). This is likely to affect the late Saturday repeats in May, as either the repeats or Tiny Tearaway repeats will have to move on those nights. The Radio Times http://www.radiotimes.com indicates "to be announced" for most of 7 May on BBC Three. |
No new networks have bought the show since last week. Any sales news should appear at the BBC Press Office http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice and C21Media http://www.c21media.net . And I'd send out an update. And Outpost Gallifrey http://www.gallifreyone.com and many more Who sites would publicize it quickly. |
Maryland Public TV http://www.mpt.org is going back to Patrick Troughton again. After 3 weeks of Tom Baker stories from the Key To Time season, MPT will return to Troughton with The Tomb of the Cybermen on Saturday May 7. A quick check of The Pirate Planet last week showed that, instead of airing the traditional movie version, MPT had taken a heavily edited episodic version and cut the cliffhangers together. This would tie in to reports last year that stations were unable to get new prints of stories - MPT was experimenting with episodic format the last time they aired the later Tom Baker stories, and was probably unable to obtain the movie format prints for this abbreviated run. |
BBC7 http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7 aired the 2003 documentary "My Life As A Dalek" several times last Sunday. It will be available through their listen again service until Sunday 1 May. If the listen again links in the column don't work for you for some reason go to BBC7's website to access them directly. BBC7 continues airing the Doctor Who radio story "The Ghosts Of N-Space". |
BBC Prime http://www.bbcprime.com updated their FAQ a few weeks back and I keep forgetting to get their info in here. Their current information on Doctor Who: "We will be showing the new series of Dr Who at some point in the future however, we do not currently hold the rights to the series and they are unlikely to be made available until the show has been broadcast in the UK. Therefore please keep an eye on the website for details of possible future transmissions." |
BBC Prime is available throughout Europe, Africa, and parts of Asia as a cable network. Doctor Who is probably going to sell for more money in each country if the local broadcasters get to air it first, so there is little incentive to air the show on BBC Prime until they exhaust local broadcasters who want the show. |
