Top news this week comes from Outpost Gallifrey http://www.gallifreyone.com/. The UK Sci-Fi Channel http://www.uk.scifi.com/ has gotten the rights to air the 1996 Doctor Who movie. This is probably the version with several violent scenes edited out, and not the complete version which aired on BBC2 in 1999 or that is out on DVD. Outpost Gallifrey indicates that the movie is airing on 2 November at 8PM and 3 November at 2PM, and so far I can find no other airings checking the schedule to the end of November. The UK and South African versions of the Sci-Fi channel are owned by the same people and share the same website. I cannot find any evidence of scheduled airings of the movie in South Africa at this time, but it would not surprise me. |

Last week TWIDW mentioned KTEH/KCAH's pledge plans for Doctor Who on November 24th. Now, we know of another prime time pledge night for the good Doctor. WCET 48 Cincinnati, OH http://www.wcet.org/ is airing The Five Doctors Special Edition from 9PM to Midnight this Saturday the 26th as a pledge special. This is reportedly the first airing of the Special Edition of Five Doctors on this station. |

WENH 11, one of the stations of New Hampshire Public TV http://www.nhptv.org/ , has been off the air since October 18th due to a transmitter failure. New parts have been ordered, and NHPTV hopes to have the station back on the air shortly. According to the website, WENH 11 is still off the air as of publication time. |

Dish Network http://www.dishnetwork.com/ has been moving most of its local channels from conus to spotbeams over the past week or two. Doctor Who fans who might have tried to "move" into designated TV market areas with Doctor Who affiliates will now probably find that classic tactic useless, as all or most of the Doctor Who affiliates on Dish are or soon will only be available on spotbeams, which cover small areas instead of the whole country. DirecTV local channels have been on spotbeams since right before they started adding Doctor Who affiliates late last year. http://echostar.swiki.net/52 offers the best current information on which stations are carried on various satellites. |
Clocks change in most of the world this weekend. In the Northern Hemisphere, most places switch from Daylight Savings Time to Standard Time early Sunday, October 27th. Much of the Southern Hemisphere switches from Standard Time to Daylight Savings Time. Bear this in mind, particularly if you get a Doctor Who affiliate and your locality is not changing from one time to the other. |
