A mere 21 months after its last 'new' Doctor Who broadcast (on April 17, 1998), SPACE: The Imagination Station is planning to treat its viewers to Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D., a 1966 colour movie remake of The Dalek Invasion of Earth, a William Hartnell TV story. This version stars Peter Cushing as Dr. Who and Roberta Tovey as Susan. It will air in their late movie slot on Monday, January 24th (Midnight EST, 9PM PST) as part of a series of films on life in 2000+. This was the 2nd Cushing outing as Dr. Who. (Dr Who and the Daleks came out in 1965 as a remake of the original Dalek story.) While the script, acting, and sets were all better than the earlier Cushing film, this film was much less successful in its original release. |

The overnight ratings for Doctor Who And The Silurians ep 5 on BBC2 (Tuesday, 11 January) have come in. Based on the early numbers, 1.7 million people watched BBC2's broadcast, though that number always rises when the final tallies come out. Silurians came in fourth in the time slot, beating only Channel 5 among UK terrestrial stations. The first 4 episodes of Silurians have been bringing in about 2 million viewers, not high enough to make BBC2's top 30 list of shows (or get announced in public forums, for some reason). Episode 5 was the first episode to air in competition with TG4 in Ireland's Tuesday Doctor Who broadcasts. I have no information about how many people watched TG4's airing, or which station got more viewers in Ireland. |

Last week, MPT aired The Invisible Enemy, one week after airing Image of the Fendahl by mistake. Image was in episode format, while Invisible was in the same movie format that MPT has traditionally used. It remains to be seen whether MPT will switch to episodic format on a regular basis. |

Shortly after last week's column went out, updated TV listings showed that TG4 in Ireland was airing 3 Doctor Who episodes a week, not 2. Apologies if anyone missed the Thursday 6PM showing, which was episode 3 of Terror of the Autons. |
