To complete the Key To Time and allow the White Guardian to stabilize the universe, the 4thDoctor and Romana must sacrifice the life of an innocent. Normally the Doctor could just say "stuff it" to the White Guardian and quit this quest. But if the Key is *not* completed, the Doctor's time loop will collapse and both the planets Atrios and Zeos will be destroyed in the crossfire of a space battle.
