The Doctor and Melanie (Bonnie Langford) have been brought to Lakertya by an old enemy, the Rani (Kate O'Mara) — an evil manipulative Time Lord whose ruthless pursuit of pure science takes no account for the value of life.
Rani kidnaps geniuses out of time to use in her experiments, but when she tries to add the doctor to her list, she makes her first mistake.
