Part 1 of a six-episode adventure with Patrick Troughton making a special guest ap pearance as the Doctor (mark II) in one of his earlier incarnations. The Time Lords send him to investigate experi ments in time control at an intergalactic space conference when the other Doctor (Mark VI) is on holiday. A distress call interrupts the holiday.
