The Doctor, Romana and K9 face new dangers searching for the second segment to the Key to Time. What has happened to the planet it is hidden on?
Instead of landing on Calufrax as originally intended, they arrive on a different planet and encounter the Mentiads, and the strange Captain.

The Graff Vynda-K takes being lied to badly, and tries to kill Garron and Unstoffe. He wants to kill the Doctor as well. He wants to kill everyone, come to think of it. He wants to rule the living, but all he does is kill.

The Doctor and Romana have a problem. The 2nd segment of the Key To Time is on the planet Calufrax. They have gone to the location of Calufrax. But Calufrax is missing, replaced by another planet. And the tracer for the Key claims the segment is everywhere. Either the tracer needs new batteries, so something very nasty has happened. This is the first Doctor Who story that a then-unknown named Douglas Adams worked on.
