The TARDIS lands on the English coast in 1066, but the travellers are puzzled to find modern day artefacts. A monk observes the arrival of the TARDIS, but seems unsurprised.

Steven Taylor doesn't believe that the TARDIS can travel through Time. Vicki and the 1st Doctor cannot convince him. Arriving in the 11th Century does not convince him. And certainly finding 20th Century artefacts lying about won't do much to convince him either.
