KACV was launched in Amarillo, Texas on 29th August 1988, one of the last PBC stations to be launched in a major city. It was rebranded as Panhandle PBS in 2013.

It was one of a number of PBS stations to broadcast the first series starring Christopher Eccleston in 2007, and repeated it in 2008.
