The world's leading paid television programmer, Discovery Communications, announced that its entertainment channel, TLC, will begin airing in Turkey next month instead of the economy channel CNBC-e. In July, the programmer had announced its deal with Turkey's Doğuş Media Group to acquire the CNBC-e television channel. Through this acquisition, Discovery has increased the number of its channels in Turkey to 13 while it has also taken its first step toward national broadcasting in Turkey. It was announced that the acquisition will be finalized by the end of 2015. However, according to Discovery Communication's recent announcement, TLC, which is an entertainment channel that mostly broadcasts lifestyle programs, will start airing next month. TLC is watched by 95 million Americans, while it serves 303 million households in 190 markets around the world. TLC was ranked among the top-10 cable channels that appeal to women in the U.S. in 2014 and the channel has become the most popular lifestyle channel in the U.K., South Africa and Poland. CNBC-e, founded in 2000, broadcasts economy reports during the daytime and TV series and movies for the rest of the evening. Discovery is known for its documentary programs and channels broadcasted in more than 200 countries. |
