DR1 is a national state television channel operated by Danmarks Radio (DR) in Denmark, which commenced broadcasting on 2nd October 1951. Initially the only station, it was formally renamed DR1 on 30th August 1996 when DR2 was established. It shows a number of entertainment programmes as well as news and current affairs.
In 1979 DR broadcast the first of Tom Baker's stories, Robot over the course of the summer holidays. This was followed up in the Autumn half-term with The Android Invasion and in the New Year with The Ark In Space, but this was to be the only time the series was shown in Denmark until its return in 2006 with the first series starring Christopher Eccleston, repeared again the following year.
The series was revived on sister channel DR3 with the arrival of Matt Smith, where it has been broadcast ever since.
