KUAC was the first public television station in Alaska, commencing broadcast on 22nd December 1971. It is owned by the University of Alaska Fairbanks. In 1995 the station joined with KTOO (Juneau) and KYUK (Bethel) to form AlaskaOne to provide PBS programming across the whole of Alaska.
In 2011 KUAC returned to being a locally focussed PBC station when operation of AlaskaOne switched to Alaska Public Telecommunications (KAKM's owner), and is known as KUAC TV9.
