TWIDW Update: SciFi Schedule Change, WCET Cincinnati Adds Doctor Who (posted 18th Aug 2006, 10:56am - TWIDW post #0428) |
Two pieces of good news for US Doctor Who fans: |
1) SciFi http://www.scifi.com has quietly updated their schedulebot for Friday September 29. Previously it showed the Season premiere of Doctor Who as a 4 hour block from 9PM to 1AM Eastern. Now it shows: 8:00PM - Doctor Who 9:30PM - Doctor Who 10:30PM - Doctor Who 12:00AM - Doctor Who |
No episode titles listed yet, but since the first episode of the series (The Christmas Invasion) is 59 minutes not counting commercials, the implication is that it would air at 8PM and 10:30PM with the more regular length New Earth at 9:30PM and 12:00AM. Time will tell. |
So - US premiere of Series 2 starts at 8PM Eastern on September 29, not 9PM. |
2) WCET 48 Cincinnati, OH http://www.wcet.org was one of the stations that had to drop Doctor Who in 2004 when BBC Worldwide Americas wouldn't let US public TV stations renew their licenses for the show. Now they have gotten rights to the show again, having purchased up to 106 half-hours by some accounts. |
Doctor Who will air Saturdays at 10:30PM Eastern (2 hour half episodes) starting Saturday October 7, with a pledge night expected soon after the premiere to help WCET pay the costs involved in running the series. First up - the Tom Baker episodes, starting with Robot. Currently, the only other stations in the US airing the older Doctor Who episodes are Maryland Public TV, Iowa Public TV, and KBTC/KCKA Tacoma/Centralia, Washington. Thanks to everyone in the Cincinnati area who is getting the word out about this development. |
