TORCHWOOD - BBC Three Summer 2006, 13 Episodes |
Doctor Who is preparing to give birth to a bouncing baby spinoff series. News has been breaking over the last few hours of a show called "Torchwood" - note that the name is an anagram of Doctor Who. |
The BBC Doctor Who homepage http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho has the name "Torchwood" in the Doctor Who logo. Underneath it says Summer 2006 BBC Three Starring John Barrowman Created by Russell T Davies. Beneath that is links to the regular Doctor Who website features. |
The Independent Newspaper has the Torchwood series as their top story. Here it is: http://news.independent.co.uk/media/article320110.ece . The article details that the BBC has commissioned Russell T. Davies, the man behind the current Doctor Who series, to make an adult post- watershed spinoff for digital channel BBC Three. Torchwood will feature a team fighting alien related crime in Britain. It will be led by John Barrowman's character "Captain Jack" - previously seen in 5 episodes of Series One of the new Doctor Who this year. Torchwood will have 13 episodes of 45 minutes each. It will hopefully premiere around the time that the 2006 series of Doctor Who finishes. |
John Barrowman was previously mentioned as not appearing in Series Two of Doctor Who, though he may be in Series Three. |
Outpost Gallifrey http://www.gallifreyone.com and the BBC site http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho should have continuing coverage on Torchwood in the days, weeks, and months ahead. |
