A new BBC press release highlights a list of countries that have bought Doctor Who: http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/commercial/worldwidestories/pressrel eases/2005/05_may/licensing_international.shtml . |
Interestingly, it reveals that Doctor Who has been bought in Denmark and Hungary, which is new and welcome news. No broadcasters are named, so the digging to find who has Who has begun. |

News article on South Korean pickup of Doctor Who series. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml? xml=/news/2005/05/29/nwho29.xml&sSheet=/news/2005/05/29/ixhome_html |
Doctor Who will be dubbed and air 2 episodes per week (Sundays 11:15PM) on KBS2 starting this weekend. It is the first BBC drama to be sold to South Korea, so this will be a new audience for the series. The English language version of the KBS website doesn't give TV listings for the main channels. The main Korean version http://www.kbs.co.kr only updates the TV schedule once a week, so if there are any repeats during the week before the next episodes air on 12 June we won't know until 6 June. The site is somewhat difficult to read if, like I, you can't read Korean, so I might miss fine details that someone who can read Korean might catch. |
The Telegraph article also mentions that 4 airlines (Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, Singapore Airlines, and Air New Zealand) have bought the rights to air Doctor Who on their airplanes beginning in June. So if you do any flying on one of those airlines, it'd be interesting to know how many episodes are available at one time and when they switch episodes. And I guess this means that the New Zealand and Singapore premieres of the series will be in the air, not on a TV station. Thomsonfly Airlines has had Doctor Who for a month, though there have been no reports on how many episodes they air or when they update. |
C21Media also has a press release on the KBS2 South Korean pickup: http://www.c21media.net/news/detail.asp?area=1&article=25013 |
This one has a quote by Jungwon Lee, executive director at KBS Media: "We are excited to launch Doctor Who on our network. For the first time in a primetime weekend slot, we are bringing the latest hit BBC drama to our Korean audience and anticipate a great reaction from all age groups." |
Both articles point out that the Korean word for Dalek catchphrase "Exterminate!" is "Pagishikinda!" |
CBC Canada http://www.cbc.ca/television has officially scheduled repeats of Doctor Who starting Sunday June 19 at 7PM (7:30PM Newfoundland). The Sunday run (which begins shortly before the episodes finish on Tuesdays) will have all 13 episodes. If you missed any episodes, or want to see them again, or want to introduce new fans to the show, this is a great opportunity. It marks the first regular repeats of the series outside of BBC Three in the UK. Based on the CBC's website, repeats will also air in the Tuesday 8PM slot starting 5 July. |
The CBC.CA documentary Planet Of The Doctor http://www.cbc.ca/planetofthedoctor has seen its 3rd episode "The Adventures Of Doctor Who" go online. |
The CBC mysteriously cut 15 seconds from The Empty Child on the 31 May broadcast. Expect the Doctor Who Information Network http://www.dwin.org to have details shortly, as they put up a description of the scene of World War Three that the CBC omitted a few weeks back. |
KUED 7 Salt Lake City, UT http://www.kued.org has replaced Doctor Who on its schedule. Starting June 11, Fawlty Towers will air there. This leaves 2 US stations who have not finished their contracts to air the old episodes - Maryland Public TV http://www.mpt.org and Iowa Public TV http://www.iptv.org . |
