TVNZ had the distinction of being the first channel outside of the UK to broadcast Doctor Who, with An Unearthly Child shown on 18th September 1964 in Christchurch. Over the course of the next 35 years the series continued to be shown on both this channel and the later sister channel TV2, with the final episode on TV1 being episode two of Revenge of the Cybermen on 11th February 1987 (TV2 continued until 3rd July 1999 with the Paul McGann TV Movie. From 2000, New Zealand broadcasts moved to Prime TV.
