THIS WEEK IN DOCTOR WHO - November 5, 2003
by Benjamin F. Elliott
Vol 6, No 45
It's November 2003. Doctor Who turns 40 this month. Is anyone excited yet?
Doctor Who's anniversary month kicked off with a piece of good news at the Panopticon Convention. Portions of a 1966 BBC TV trailer for Power Of The Daleks have recently been discovered on the end of another TV program. Power Of The Daleks was the first Patrick Troughton Who story, broadcast in November and December 1966. Andrew Martin at the BBC has been checking telerecordings to find these little odds and ends of archive TV. The footage includes the 2nd Doctor, Ben, and Polly's discovery of the Daleks at the end of episode 1. The trailer will be on the next Patrick Troughton DVD released in the UK.
Outpost Gallifrey reports that the current plan for the new Doctor Who series is to make an initial batch of 12 episodes running 45 minutes each - 6 two parters.
Quick reminder - The Scream Of The Shalka premieres at on Thursday 13 November at 12:30PM GMT. A trailer for the story is at that link right now. Animated by Cosgrove Hall, Scream introduces Richard E Grant as the Ninth Doctor. Episodes will premiere weekly online through 18 December. Before Scream premieres, I'd suggest that anyone who hasn't already take a listen to Shada and Real Time , BBCi's last 2 online Doctor Who stories. They're rather good.
Quick reminder - The Story of Doctor Who, a new documentary on the series, is being produced to air on BBC1 in December.
Maryland Public TV is definitely airing the William Hartnell stories in movie format.
