Welcome to the weekly guide to Doctor Who on Television.

Since this column focuses on TV Doctor Who, other goings on in the Doctor Who universe don't usually get discussed here much. However, I think we should stop for a minute and remember Michael Palmer. Michael Palmer was a Doctor Who fan in his mid 30s, who for the last several years has helped recreate the early years of Doctor Who for we later generations of fans who otherwise might miss out. By himself, and later with the JV Dr Who Reconstructions team http://www.telesnaps.com/ , Michael created telesnap reconstructions of many of the lost Hartnell and Troughton stories. You take the photos, telesnaps, surviving clips, and fan audio recordings from the lost stories, lovingly put them together, and create the closest thing to the original episodes that we will ever see unless the episodes turn up again. Michael died after a long illness last week, and will be missed.

POLAND - TELE 5's obscure listings enabled errors to slip through for several weeks. TELE 5 skipped the last 2 episodes of Genesis of the Daleks. Also, they are airing the stories in production order, so Revenge of the Cybermen aired weeks ago, and they've now gotten through Terror of the Zygons. We still don't know what the Polish titles for the episodes are. Thanks to our Polish Doctor Who fan for keeping track of this. If anyone knows of a good program which translates Polish websites, let me know.

CANADA - Fans of Doctor Who on BBC Kids http://www.bbckids.ca/ , take note. Beginning Saturday, 6 July, the weekend omnibus Doctor Who broadcast times will change slightly. Stories will still air at 3:30PM Saturdays and Sundays, but the repeats will move to 10:30PM instead of 10PM. Weekday airing times remain unaffected.

South America - Still need help from someone who has Uniseries http://www.uniseries.com.ar down there. What Doctor Who episodes are they airing? And starting 7 July, Doctor Who will also air Sunday mornings, bringing it to 3 weekly broadcasts.

USA - The 1996 Doctor Who Movie (starring Paul McGann) is airing on the Sci-Fi Channel http://www.scifi.com/ on Sunday, June 30 at 5PM Eastern. Sci-Fi's contract for the movie was to air it 3 times in one year (July 2001-June 2002). Unless they renewed the contract, this will be the third and final Sci-Fi airing, and the movie is available to other channels and networks again. As of this writing, clips from the movie are being used in promos for this Sunday's movie marathon (movies based on TV shows). Due to multiple time zones and two feeds of the channel, 5PM actually means: East Feed - 5PM EDT, 4PM CDT, 3PM MDT, 2PM PDT, 1PM Alaska, 11AM Hawaii West Feed - 6PM MDT, 5PM PDT, 4PM Alaska, 2PM Hawaii, 7PM CDT, 8PM EDT

BBCi "Doctor Who Censor Clips"

Recently recovered clips from The Web of Fear episodes 2,4,+5 and The Wheel In Space episode 5. The clips were cut from the original New Zealand broadcasts of these stories in 1970/1971, and right now the clips survive, while the episodes are still missing. Since last week's column went out (19 June), the picture has been tweaked and is now much clearer.

The 7th Doctor (Sylvester McCoy) fulfills the final request of The Master. He will transfer his old enemy's remains to Gallifrey. Alas, the Master is somewhat more alive than advertised, and forces the TARDIS to land in San Francisco on December 30, 1999, where the Doctor is gunned down. And that's where his troubles really begin. Intended as a continuation of the original TV series, this movie was hoping to launch a new series if the US ratings were high enough. Alas, they weren't, so a TV show has not to date occured. It has resulted in the 8th Doctor now being used for the current BBC Doctor Who books and Big Finish producing 10 (to date) audio stories featuring Paul McGann as the Doctor.

All things come to an end. One could be forgiven for mistaking this to be the final Doctor Who story. The air of death and doom, two Dalek armies, an apocalyptic bomb, tense music, and the BBC announced just weeks before the first broadcast that Doctor Who would not be produced during the following season (1985-1986). Doctor Who would return in the fall of 1986. Keep an eye on the DJ character - I'm certain that one of the costumes he wears is a dead ringer for the 7th Doctor's costume - a pure coincidence, since the 7th Doctor wouldn't even be cast, much less costumed, for another 2 years.
