TWIDW: Western Hemisphere Who Schedules

The Guide to North and South American Doctor Who TV Listings

To try to make the TWIDW columns easier to follow, this new section
will combine all the Doctor Who listings through the Americas, from
Peru to Newfoundland, Canada. TWIDW: This Week In Doctor Who will
have Doctor Who information for Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and
connected islands. Sarah Jane information, all the podcasts, and the
lists of stations with Doctor Who rights that are not airing the show
right now are in TWIDW: The Sarah Jane Schedules. Torchwood schedule
info is in TWIDW: Torchwood This Week.

TWIDW: Western Hemisphere Who Schedules is still a working title. It
may change when I get inspiration for the perfect name.

Latin America - in case you missed it last week, BBC Entertainment
Latin America will air Series 1 of Doctor Who for the first time
starting late night on 23 January at 1AM. Some of you may have
already seen these episodes on the People and Arts channel.

Canada - CBC Bold begins airing Series 4 of Who this Wednesday at 3AM
Eastern (episodes repeat the next Wednesday at 8PM and Midnight).
These episodes aired on the main CBC this past fall. So far, neither
CBC nor CBC Bold have scheduled Voyage Of The Damned, the extended
length Christmas episode that should air between Series 3 and 4.

USA - Doctor Who - Series 3 (The Runaway Bride and the 13 episode
2007 series with Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones) are now distributed
to Public TV stations by BBC Worldwide Americas, not American Public
TV. The episodes are available now - two stations are airing them
this weekend. Series 4 also seems to be available to buy - start date
for Series 4 on Public TV stations is unknown. BBC Worldwide Americas
also distributes classic Doctor Who to the stations that air it.

Series 1 is currently available to public TV stations in an American
Public TV package until February 28, 2009. American Public TV is not
re-issuing Series 1, so those episodes will be unavailable to public
TV stations after the aforementioned date unless/until BBC Worldwide
Americas decides to offer them. Series 2 is currently available to
public TV stations in an American Public TV package until March 31,
2010. For the Series 1 and 2 packages, stations have bought the
rights to cycle through the episodes 4 times. They are not required
to do so.

Six stations have used all their rights to the Series 1 package - WLVT 39 Allentown, PA, WJCT 7 Jacksonville, FL, WILL 12 Urbana, IL, Iowa Public TV, KUED 7 Salt Lake City, UT, and KLRU 18 Austin, TX. Idaho Public TV is airing a 5th Cycle of Series 1. OETA Oklahoma has used half of their 4th and final cycle of Series 1.

3 Public TV stations currently have rights to air the classic Doctor
Who run (1963-1989). Iowa Public TV is currently airing both New Who
Series 2 and Sylvester McCoy episodes. KBTC 28 Tacoma, WA is airing
Tom Baker episodes while resting New Who Series 1. WHRO 15 Norfolk,
VA is airing Tom Baker episodes but apparently does not have New Who
Series rights.
