The plans of John Lumic (Roger Lloyd Pack) to convert the world into Cybermen are now in full force and the Doctor (David Tennant), Rose (Billie Piper) and Mickey (Noel Clarke) along with the Preachers must find a way to stop him from enforcing his "ultimate upgrade". Lumic broadcasts a signal via the EarPods throughout London, taking hypnotic control of most of the population. Those affected, including Jackie (Camille Ciduri), begin walking towards the Battersea Power Station factory to be upgraded.

The group decides to split up to increase their chances of getting out of the city. However in the process of fleeing, the Cybermen catch up with Ricky (Noel Clarke) while he is climbing a fence. They kill him as Mickey watches helplessly from the other side.

Episode 8 - The Idiot's Lantern, Saturday August 26, 7.30pm

Rose steps out of the Tardis, excited about seeing Elvis Presley perform. The Doctor rides out on a Vespa scooter, wearing a white helmet over his Teddy Boy quiff and sunglasses. They set down the street, ostensibly to see Presley perform on the "Ed Sullivan Show" in New York, until they notice a double-decker bus and Union flags hanging outside the houses on the street.

They are in fact in London. It is 1953 and the people of Britain gather around their new-fangled "tele-vision" sets to celebrate the new Queen's coronation - but something strange is affecting the signal and the trouble is emanating from Magpie Electricals. There Magpie speaks to the television sets in his shop, saying that he has finished "it" as instructed.
