HD Net was launched in Canada in 2006 as a high-definition service, airing a variety of programming including series, sports events and concert performances. In 2012 it was re-launched as AXS TV, initially continuing in the vein of the original channel but shifting towards music, pop-culture and lifestyle-oriented programming.

The channel used to show different programming to the US version of the channel.
