BBC Worldwide reveals launch titles for BBC Brit and BBC Earth debut in Poland

BBC Brit launch brings Polish viewers Top Gear S22 same day as the UK

BBC Worldwide has today revealed its programming slate for the debut of its new global genre brands BBC Brit and BBC Earth in Poland on 1 February 2015.

Packed with brand new unmissable programming and A-list talent, the schedules for BBC Brit and BBC Earth will showcase the very best in quick witted entertainment and World-Class Factual from the BBC and leading UK independents.

With content ranging from cars and business to documentaries and science, BBC Brit is a place to learn and laugh at the hands of some of the most endearing and quirky characters on television. 

The channel will be the exclusive home of brand new Top Gear, the World’s most popular motoring show.  For the very first time from launch, BBC Brit will bring Polish viewers closer to the action than ever before, with premiere episodes airing on the channel the same day as the UK.

New and exclusive launch titles for the market on BBC Brit include:

  • Original commission Mud, Sweat and Gears, an exciting, funny and action-packed contest where car enthusiasts battle it out in vehicles they’ve adapted way beyond their original DNA.
  • Award-winning journalist and broadcaster Louis Theroux enters the bizarre world of LA’s dogs, meeting the characters whose lives revolve around the city’s huge canine population in LA Stories: City of Dogs.
  • Radio producer, author and TV presenter Karl Pilkington sets out in his own inimitable style to check out other cultures and experience how they face up to life’s big issues like happiness, death, careers, marriage and children in the Moaning of Life.
  • Speed with Guy Martin Series 1 followsmotorcycle racer and lorry mechanic Guy Martin he sets out to create four speed based challenges. With attempts such as riding a bicycle at 100mph using pedal power alone, Guy will push the boundaries of physics and learn about the science of speed.
  • Comedian Lee Mack and a flock of celebrity guests investigate bizarre and fascinating facts such as “Can a human scale walls using household vacuums?” in an attempt to prove to their fellow panellists – and the audience – whether or not it’s true in Duck Quacks Don’t Echo.

BBC Brit’s high profile line up continues with David Beckham: Into the Unknown following the football icon as embarks on a personal journey across Brazil with some of his closest friends, and Billy Connelly’s Big Send Off where the straight-talking Scot as he explores changing attitudes, beliefs and approaches towards death.

BBC Earth celebrates the belief that real life is better than fiction. From microscopic creatures to the limitless expanses of space, BBC Earth’s charismatic experts and adventurers will take Polish audiences on a thrilling journey of discovery and invite them to share in the wonders of the universe.

The unmissable programming line-up for BBC Earth includes:

  • Life Story – The latestlandmark series and ratings hit from the award-winning BBC Natural History Unit. Narrated by Sir David Attenborough the series is shot in ultra-hi-definition (4K), delivering the highest quality images ever seen in a wildlife documentary. The series spans the globe telling the remarkable and often perilous story of the journey through life capturing extraordinary moments of resilience and tenacity and never seen before animal behaviours.
  • Professor Brian Cox presents Human Universe; thestory of humanity told through the greatest questions we’ve ever asked. Venturing into incredible places across the globe and drawing on the latest scientific theories, the series explores everything from the nature of consciousness and language development to the human need to search deeper into the unknown and our compulsion to discover alien life in the universe.
  • Life Below Zero: The Thaw -An awe-inspiring series following the people who live off the grid in Alaska. After the harsh winter, breakup is under way in remote Alaska and the families living here face a whole new set of challenges as the battle begins to acquire as much food and vital resources to prepare for the oncoming freeze.
  • Lands of the Monsoon -An exhilarating journey through the lands of the monsoon offering a taste of the variety and colour of Southern Asia’s most extraordinary wildlife and cultures and the way they cope with the tumultuous weather.
  • Deadly Pole to Pole - Explorer and naturalist Steve Backshall embarks on an epic journey that takes him and his trusty crew from the Arctic to the Antarctic in search of the deadliest animals on earth. Steve also explores some of the earth’s deadly forces of nature; red hot molten lava, unexplored underwater caves, exploding super volcanoes and mighty glaciers.
  • Sugar V Fat - To answer the hottest question in nutrition, twin doctors Chris and Xand Van Tulleken go on month-long high-fat and high-sugar diets. The effects on their bodies are shocking and surprising. But they also discover that in the debate about fat and sugar, the real enemy might have been hiding in plain sight.

Poland is the first territory to launch BBC Brit and BBC Earth as linear channels, following the launch of premium drama brand BBC First into Australia this August on Pay TV platform Foxtel. They join existing local channels BBC Lifestyle, CBeebies and BBC HD in the Polish market.
