TWIDW Update: Season 2 On SciFi US September 29th? (posted 4th Aug 2006, 10:15pm - TWIDW post #0423) |

Lee Whiteside of the SFTV mailing list http://www.sftv.org has come across the NBC Insider Cable schedule for SciFi for September 2006. See the link here: http://www.nbccableinfo.com/insidenbccable/pdf/scifi/schedules/septem ber06.pdf |
Cut and paste the link into your browser if it didn't come through clearly. On September 29, it shows Doctor Who (NEW) airing at 9 and 10PM, with repeats at 11PM and Midnight (Eastern Time). There are no episode titles. SciFi's website now has episode titles for everything airing in September (including the daytime Doctor Who marathon on September 29), but no titles for that 4 hour block. |
So good news - it appears that Doctor Who has its US season premiere on September 29 at 9PM. |
Bad news - The Christmas Invasion is 59 minutes long without commercials, so it would either have to be a) skipped and shown later or b) have 15 1/2 minutes chopped out of it to fit SciFi's schedule as currently displayed. It does have an extended trailer for Series 2 that could be cut and the credits will always get squeezed, but that still leaves 13 minutes unaccounted for. |
SciFi has always felt willing to change their schedule at a moment's notice, so things can always change. They could air Christmas Invasion complete and have filler to finish the 2 hours. But for now, we must assume one of the following 2 scenarios: |
Scenario 1: 9PM - The Christmas Invasion (edited) 10PM - New Earth 11PM - The Christmas Invasion (edited) Midnight - New Earth |
Scenario 2: 9PM - New Earth 10PM - Tooth And Claw 11PM - New Earth Midnight - Tooth And Claw |
The Christmas Invasion isn't required to enjoy Series 2, but some references (notably at the end of the series) make more sense if you see it, and as David Tennant's debut story it helps establish the kind of Doctor he is. |
One last thing - the Daytime marathon on September 29 is the last 8 episodes of Series 1, which makes sense to lead into the new episodes. All times Eastern: 8AM - Dalek 9AM - The Long Game 10AM - Father's Day 11AM - The Empty Child Noon - The Doctor Dances 1PM - Boom Town 2PM - Bad Wolf 3PM - The Parting Of The Ways |
