TWIDW Update: Christmas Invasion On CBC December 26
(posted 18th Oct 2005, 2:56pm - TWIDW post #0347)
BBC Worldwide issued a press release today praising sales of their
programmes to Canada at the Mipcom conference. Part of the press
release concerned Doctor Who on the CBC. The BBC has previously
announced that they sold Series 2 and the Christmas Invasion episode
to the CBC, but this provides more details. Of special interest is
that The Christmas Invasion will air on Boxing Day, Monday December
26 on the CBC, hosted by Billie Piper. The episode will probably air
on the same weekend that it premieres on BBC One.
Yes, I also see the comments about a DVD release of series one. Hold
off on the champagne and partying for that piece until we have
confirmation from BBC Worldwide Americas. Remember that sometimes
titles are released in Canada but not the US - this has never
happened with BBC releases to date, but there is precedent.

The Doctor Who portions:
"Other deals secured include a major licensing deal with CBC
Television for the second series of the latest Doctor Who adventures
following the critical success of the first series.
"The deal includes a Christmas special, hosted by Billie Piper
exclusively for CBC viewers that air on Boxing Day. The new 13 part
adventure is currently filming in Wales and is due to air on CBC in
2006. BBC Video is planning to release series one on DVD in February
2006.
"BBC Worldwide has also recently appointed Buzzworthy as the
merchandising agent for the Doctor Who brand in Canada. This is the
first time an agent has been appointed solely for the territory.
"As part of the three-year agreement, Buzzworthy will actively seek
partner companies to produce and distribute new and existing Doctor
Who products including toys, clothing and gift items from the second
series."
