THIS WEEK IN DOCTOR WHO - 18 Days Until Christmas (Invasion)
December 7, 2005 - Vol 8, No 49
The weekly guide to Doctor Who broadcasts worldwide.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/torchwood
Wednesday 7 December:
NRK 2 Norway - 8:05PM - Verden I Fare
Friday 9 December:
Jimmy (Italy) - 9PM - World War Three
Saturday 10 December:
één Network Belgium - 3:55PM - The Unquiet Dead
France 4 - 10:20PM - L'explosion de Cardiff / Le Grand Méchant Loup
Tuesday 20 December:
BBC Radio 2 8:33PM - Regeneration (documentary on the challenge of introducing a new Doctor to the British public, and on Doctor Who's success in 2005)
Christmas Day:
BBC One 7PM - The Christmas Invasion
BBC Interactive 8PM Attack of the Graske (interactive mini-episode)
Boxing Day:
CBC Canada 8PM - The Christmas Invasion
Valentines Day 2006:
Series One available on DVD in the US, first time the episodes are legitimately available in that country
18 days till the big event in the UK, 19 days in Canada. New Doctor,
special extended episode, and maybe the start of a Christmas
tradition.
BBC 7 http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7 has its schedule for this weekend
up, contradicting earlier information in the Radio Times
http://www.radiotimes.com . Assuming BBC 7 is correct, "Shada
(2003)" will only air one time, Saturday from 8 to 10:30PM GMT. "My
Life As A Dalek" will also only repeat once, at 10:30PM GMT. "The
Chimes Of Midnight", starring Paul McGann and India Fisher, will NOT
air episode 1 at 6:30PM and 12:30AM GMT. It will probably premiere
on 17 December in those time slots after all. The Radio Times
continues to show lots of Doctor Who (including Chimes) on 10
December, but lists the 17 December broadcast of Chimes Of Midnight
as part 1.
The interactive episode/game on BBC Interactive is now
titled "Attack Of The Graske". David Tennant has filmed new material
as the Doctor (in regular costume, not the pajamas). You the viewer
will have the role of the companion. Unknown how long it will remain
up after it premieres at 8PM Christmas Day. Just press the red
button on BBC One or BBC Two (though why would you be on BBC Two -
you'll have just been watching The Christmas Invasion on BBC One).
Presumably UK only at this time.
BBC Three http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree will air Series One (the Eccleston episodes) 2 episodes a night from 7 to 8:30PM starting 26 December. The first 10 episodes will air through 30 December. Episodes 11 and 12 will probably air on New Years Eve with episode 13 on New Years Day, but I can't verify that yet. BBC Three will allegedly repeat The Christmas Invasion from 7 to 8PM on 2 January 2006, which would be the first repeat the episode gets (it's not repeating on Christmas Day). Interesting that BBC Three and UKTV Gold will wind up repeating the Eccleston episodes at the same time, with the possibility of Boom Town airing on both UKTV Gold and BBC Three on New Years Eve.
UKTV Gold's Friday Who repeats move to 7PM starting January 6. Late Sunday repeat cancelled. The Colin Baker stories, skipped in the run- up to Christmas, begin on 14 January. There will be additional pre- emptions and special programming between 17 December and 2 January for Christmas season programming decisions (the 1996 TV Movie will air a few times). See the sections in the new series and earlier episodes sections for details.
Some versions of last week's column noted a report from Sci-Fi Wire at the Sci-Fi Channel http://www.scifi.com about the decision to release Series One direct to DVD in the US before finding a US buyer. I tailored the report with a degree of skepticism, not wanting to get people heavily excited without proof that the release was happening. The Outpost Gallifrey edition had that report excised as in the hours immediately after the column went out BBC Worldwide Americas confirmed that series one really will be on DVD in the US on February 14. This is the same day (and same DVDs) that were previously announced for Canada. The retail price is $99.98 - hopefully available for less in most locations.
Don't forget - BBC Radio 2 http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2 is airing a
new one hour Doctor Who documentary (Regeneration) on Tuesday 20
December at 8:33PM GMT. It will focus on Doctor Who's success in
2005 and the challenges of coming back with a new leading man. You
can listen live through Windows Media Player or Realplayer. It will
then be available through Radio 2's Listen Again feature.
The BBC Press Office http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice and C21 Media
http://www.c21media.net often announce when a Doctor Who
international sale occurs. Worth keeping an eye on, just in case.
