03 Oct 2013SPACE to simulcast The Day of the Doctor

If it sometimes seems there aren’t enough hours in the day to watch all the TV series that interest you, expect that problem to escalate in the months ahead. Bell Media has announced 22 exclusive new series premiering on its specialty channels (including Bravo, The Comedy Network, Discovery, Gusto, E!, MTV, and Much) during the 2016/2017 season—and there really is something for everyone. Space viewers should be especially excited, as Bell’s announcement includes three major additions to the network’s lineup.

Set in contemporary London, this Doctor Who spin-off (from executive producers Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin) is being described as “scary,” “funny,” “painful,” and “sharp as youth.” Class stars Greg Austin, Fady Elsayed, Sophie Hopkins, and Vivian Oparah as four Coal Hill School students who “have hidden secrets and desires, and are facing their own worst fears, navigating a life of friends, parents, school work, sex, sorrow—and possibly the end of existence.”

Other shows mentioned are Lucky Man and Falling Water.

The holidays are a time to reunite with family—your Doctor Who family, that is. And Space is rounding up the whole gang—all the Doctors, all the companions, and all the enemies—for a comprehensive, nothing-left-out, all-inclusive Doctor Who-a-Thon starting December 20 at 6 a.m. ET and running until InnerSpace's Doctor Who Christmas Special on December 25 at 8:30 p.m. ET, which is of course followed by Doctor Who's Christmas Special, "Last Christmas," at 9 p.m. ET. Forget the 12 days of Christmas—we've got six days of Doctor Who!

This marathon has everything. Every regular-season episode. Every special. Plus, a whole day's worth of Doctor Who documentaries, including "Doctor Who Explained," "Tales from the TARDIS," and "The Destinations of Doctor Who." That much Doctor Who demands some careful planning. So we've put together this guide to help you get through almost a week of undiluted Doctor.

Pre-prep

Would pack your suitcase an hour before your flight? Would you wait until the night before your exam to crack your textbook? No. (Well, maybe—but for the purposes of this guide, let's say no.) So you shouldn't wait until the 19th to prep for this intensive TV marathon. You've got jargon to brush up on, languages to learn, and funny Buzzfeed lists to read. What are you even waiting for?

What to wear

Bowties. Pinstripes. Converse. Long, colourful scarves. Purple pleather. Suspenders. Royal blue. Blazers. Trench Coats. Tweed coats. Army coats. Leather coats. Basically any kind of coat. Space suits. Pig noses. Rhinoceros heads. Anything gooey. When it comes to style options, you've got a range.

Décor

For this Doctor Who-a-Thon, we at Space expect no less than a complete and detailed transformation of your entire living space into the interior of the TARDIS. Or you could just put some of those glow-in-the-dark planet stickers on your ceiling.

Snacks

You know the Doctor's Law of Snacks: "Always bring a banana to a party." In this case, may we also recommend chips, M&Ms, pretzels, salsa, Smart Pop, gummy worms, cookies, cheese, olives, apple slices and pop. These aren't timey-wimey snack suggestions. They're just regular snack suggestions. If you're going to watch TV for six days straight, you're going to need a lot of snacks.

Companions

The Doctor would be worse off without his companions. And this Who-a-Thon will be much more fun with some sweet friends with whom to watch it. If your loved ones don't share your Time Lord love, think of this as an opportunity for initiation: convince them to start season one on December 20, and by Christmas they'll be hooked.
