AUSTRALIA - ABC1 airs series finale The Big Bang on 11 July at 7:30PM. No talk of marathons or special events at this time, though Australia will be getting the finale about 2 weeks before the US, Canada, and New Zealand. No sign of a repeat run yet. |

NEW ZEALAND - Prime airs The Lodger on Sunday 11 July at 7:30PM. Episodes repeat on Fridays at 9:40PM about 3 weeks after the Sunday premiere. The Big Bang has its New Zealand premiere on Prime on 25 July. |

CANADA - The final 3 episodes air on 10, 17, and 24 July. SPACE has the most ambitious Doctor Who finale coverage of all the networks this year. At 9PM ET/6PM PT - The Big Bang premieres. At 10PM ET/7PM PT - a live hourlong special edition of SPACE's "Innerspace" series looks back at this year's Doctor Who in a Canada wide event. Then, at 11PM ET/8PM PT - the Canadian English Language premiere of the Christmas 2007 episode Voyage of the Damned, which CBC omitted during their run of Doctor Who. Times are subject to change when SPACE realizes that The Big Bang might only give them 5 minutes of commercials in a 60 minute slot and they put the 72 minute Voyage of the Damned in an 85 minute slot. USA - Tonight at 9PM EDT BBC America premieres The Lodger. Part one of the finale "The Pandorica Opens" premieres uncut in a 65 minute slot on 10 July at 9PM EDT. More on that in the next paragraph. On 24 July BBC America will repeat the first 12 episodes in a marathon from 9AM to 9PM Eastern Time. Expect The Eleventh Hour, The Vampires Of Venice, Vincent And The Doctor, and The Pandorica Opens to be cut down to 46 minutes each for commercials. The Time Of Angels/Flesh And Stone and The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood will be edited into movies for that marathon. BBC America's premiere of The Big Bang will be Saturday 24 July at 9PM EDT, with the approximately 54 minute episode airing in 60 minutes with extremely limited commercial interruptions. The 3 showings that night will be uncut. The Big Bang will probably be edited down to 46 minutes when it airs with The Pandorica Opens on 26 July in a movie version and when it repeats by itself on Tuesday 27 July at 9PM ET. |

USA - I'm sure BBC America will turn up the advertising for The Big Bang and people will tune in for the spectacle of a finale and the spectacle of a commercial network having a really small number of commercials in one hour. But The Pandorica Opens on the 17th is in a 65 minute slot, an unusual slot of the style BBC America seems really scared of these days, because it means some shows aren't starting on the hour or half hour. The airings on the 17th will probably be the only uncut showings of The Pandorica Opens on the BBC America linear TV schedule due to that fear of oddball time slots. It's not a finale, so it won't get heavy advertising, it probably won't set any ratings records for BBC America, and it will be a one time thing. |

USA - But what if it was different? What if the extended timeslot version of The Pandorica Opens did shatter all BBC America's rating records (1.5 million people across all three airings or 1.3 million for the 9PM premiere ought to be enough to shatter BBC America's records)? What if we, the viewers, took it upon ourselves and made The Pandorica Opens a TV event? All of us who have BBC America, including those who watched The Pandorica Opens earlier, could actually tune in live for whichever of the three premiere showings we're home for that night. We could tweet about it. Facebook about it. Live blog in whatever format we use. Make sure BBC America knows that we appreciate that the episodes are uncut (if you can actually identify a scene missing instead of just a general feeling, call it out too). That we'd tune in for other uncut shows, and don't mind odd time slots as long as they list the time properly. It'll be a quiet Saturday with nothing else going on - we could be the biggest thing on the internet. I created a twitter hashtag - #17JulyWhoPlan . Other hashtag ideas are fine. |
