It's a busy week for Doctor Who broadcasts outside of the UK.
Showtime Arabia has started airing the
2nd series of Doctor Who on Wednesdays on the Style UK channel. New
Earth aired today (10 January) at 9AM and 4PM UAE (5AM and Noon GMT).
Episodes are only airing Wednesdays at this time. Thanks to Chris and
Anthony for the news.
Cool TV in Hungary quietly began airing Series
2. Episodes currently premiere Sundays at 6PM and 3:10AM, repeating
Saturdays at 6PM and 2AM. It appears that School Reunion repeats this
Saturday before Girl In The Fireplace runs on Sunday.
Israeli channel Yes Stars has scheduled The Christmas Invasion to premiere on Monday 22 January. I'm not entirely clear, but the website seems to indicate a broadcast at 10:20PM. Hopefully one of our readers from there can clarify the broadcast times and if Series 2 will air afterwards.
Greek viewers who missed The Christmas Invasion on Skai TV last week? It repeats late Tomorrow night (late 11 January) at 1:30AM EET. No sign of the rest of Series 2 just yet.
Torchwood This Week has the
schedule information on spinoff series Torchwood.
BBC 7 continues its series of brand new
Doctor Who radio dramas this Sunday (New Years Eve) at 6PM and
Midnight GMT. Fans around the world can listen live or tune in to
each episode on the website for 7 days afterwards. Paul McGann
returns as the 8th Doctor. The stories are produced with Big Finish,
who will later release them on CD. Immediately after the episodes is
the tie-in documentary series "Beyond The Vortex".
BBC America's upcoming schedule grid reveals a Doctor Who marathon. On Sunday January 14 from 3 to 9PM EST they will show all the episodes that have aired on BBC America to that point (Rose, The End Of The World, The Unquiet Dead, Aliens of London, World War Three, Dalek). Unquiet Dead through Dalek air from 11AM to 3PM EST as a marathon on January 15. January 16 sees new (to BBC America) episodes resume with The Long Game. SciFi is airing 8 episodes from Series 2 this Friday the 12th from 8AM to 4PM EST - no further episodes are scheduled in January and February.
CBC TV has scheduled a 4th run of the
1st Doctor Who series. Fridays at Midnight or 12:30AM (varies by
week) starting January 19. Series 2 resumes this Monday January 15 in
its Monday 8PM timeslot. All times 1/2 hour later in Newfoundland.
WTTW 11 Chicago, IL is the 5th PBS affiliate to publicly state that they have bought the Series 1 Doctor Who package for this Spring. WTTW notes in an e-mail that "... We will be airing the new Doctor Who series in Spring 2007. Unfortunately, scheduling information is only provided one month in advance; therefore, we do not have the scheduled air dates/times for the Spring schedule. Unfortunately, the classic episodes will not be aired by PBS as they are intent on providing the best of the new versions of Doctor Who."
WILL 12 Urbana, IL has finalized plans for their launch of the series. "We will preview the series during our spring pledge drive. Two episodes (Rose and End of the World) will air Saturday, March 3 from 8:00 - 10:00 pm CT. This stunt will be repeated Tuesday, March 6 from 9:00 - 11:00 pm CT. Obviously, we hope that "Doctor Who" fans will watch that evening and make a pledge of financial support. A good showing will send a clear message that we should acquire later seasons as they become available. The series begins its regular run on Sunday, March 18 at 6:00 pm CT, with a repeat on Saturdays at 10:25 pm CT. For the sake of those who may miss the preview stunt, we'll start with Rose on Mach 18, with End of the World on the 25th."
For press releases on Doctor Who, keep an eye on the BBC Press Office and C21 Media .
