BBC One's press release for their winter programming has come out -
http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2004/12_december/01/1winter.shtml
Long link - you may have to type it manually. There's a paragraph on the new series:
Acclaimed actor Christopher Eccleston hits our screens this winter as Doctor Who with Billie Piper as the Doctor's companion Rose Tyler. More details will be released early next year.
Another BBC press release with slightly more information (two word minor spoiler in 3rd paragraph which is widely known, but if you're concerned skip down a bit to be safe) - http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2004/12_december/011winter_drama.shtml
Acclaimed actor Christphoer Eccleston plays Doctor Who in a new series for BBC ONE next year.

Billie Piper, who made her acting debut in the critically acclaimed Canterbury Tales - The Miller's Tale, stars alongside Eccleston as the Doctor's companion, Rose Tyler.

Traveling through time and space, the Doctor and Rose come face to face with a number of new and exciting monsters - as well as battling the Doctor's arch-enemy, the Daleks.

The series, which promises to surprise and entertain a new generation, also features Penelope Wilton, Noel Clarke, Annette Badland, Camille Coduri and John Barrowman, Bruno Langley and celebrated theatre, film and television actor Simon Callow.

Filming in Cardiff until 2005 for transmission on BBC ONE, Doctor Who is written by Russell T Davies, Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss, Paul Cornell and Robert Shearman.
UKTV Gold's http://www.ukgold.tv statement on early Doctor Who stories (e-mailed to multiple people):

Thank you for your email regarding the early series of Doctor Who. We currently hold the broadcast rights to only the Tom Baker, Peter Davidson, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy series so these are the only series we can show. We did hold the rights to the Jon Pertwee series but these have expired and we have not secured the rights to them again as yet.

At the moment we have no plans to buy the rights to the early series featuring William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton. The problem we have with these series is that the BBC have lost or destroyed many of the episodes and of those that remain, some are no longer of broadcast quality. If we were to show them, nearly all of the stories would be incomplete and littered with holes and so to show a `series' would be impossible. Our current feeling is that it would be disappointing to viewers to show such incomplete stories so the only time we would show them is as individual episodes as part of a special season. This may happen in the future but at the moment we have no concrete plans.

I am sorry to have bought disappointing news but hopefully your queries have been answered.
No additional information on Doctor Who's future on public TV stations in the US has emerged since last week. At the moment, KBTC 28 Tacoma, WA definitely loses the rights to the show after December because the syndicator did not renew the contract. A reasonable inference, but not confirmed, would be that the other 6 affiliates (WYBE 35 Philadelphia PA, MPT Maryland, WCET 48 Cincinnati OH, WILL 12 Urbana IL, IPTV Iowa, KUED 7 Salt Lake City UT) will lose their rights when respective contracts expire. We don't know when those contracts end.

The Master tries to team up with the Sea Devils. According to both KBTC's website and Zap2it.com's website http://www.zap2it.com, episodes 5 and 6 of The Sea Devils will not air. If those episodes are going to air, someone needs to update the schedules again.
» it seems likely that owing to the rapid change of schedule with the dropping of the series that this was episodes 5+6m with 3+4 on last week.
11 December - The Mutants eps 1+2 (7:30PM & 12:30AM)
18 December - The Mutants eps 3+4
25 December - pre-empted for Christmas programming apparently, which would mean that The Mutants doesn't get episodes 5+6 either.

Thanks for reading. Until next week, take care.
