THIS WEEK IN DOCTOR WHO - January 28, 2004
by Benjamin F. Elliott
Vol 7, No 4
We begin this week with advanced news for UK Gold Doctor Who fans. After UK Gold airs Survival on February 14, they will cycle back to Robot, the first story of the Tom Baker era, skipping for now the Jon Pertwee era which has been included the last couple of times UK Gold has aired the series. UK Gold is also skipping the William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton stories, but they have done that for years. When they were airing Hartnell and Troughton stories, it was at a separate day of the week from the regular rotation.
ABC Australia made a sudden schedule change, pre-empting Doctor Who on Australia Day (26 January). This moved the conclusion of The Gunfighters (The OK Corral) to 27 January and shifted all future episodes back one weekday.
Shaun Lyon of Outpost Gallifrey and the annual Gallifrey Conventions is being interviewed on the next
American Who episode, airing nationwide on Business Talk Radio early
Monday February 2nd at 5AM Eastern/2AM Pacific as part of the Sci-Fi
Overdrive program. Check the links under American Who and Sci-Fi
Overdrive to see how to catch the interview if you're not up at that
hour or Business Talk Radio isn't in your area.
Encore Australia is airing Daleks: Invasion Earth 2150A.D. on
Thursday 29 January at 6:45AM AEDT.
The South American Sci-Fi Channel (actually South Africa) is airing SF: UK - Trips Through Time And Space late Monday 16 February at 12:45AM. Matthew De Abaitua takes a look at 60s Doctor Who, the age of psychedelic sci-fi.

A universally beloved institution has fallen on hard times. People have other things to do and watch. Stunt casting hasn't worked. Maybe killing the performers will work better. Bring in a very interactive audience. Can the 7th Doctor and Ace stop a phenomenon gone mad by its own history?
Sun 9:05-11AM GMT Battlefield movie
The 1990s. The near future. When the 7th Doctor and Ace return to England, they find U*N*I*T in need of help. Arthurian knights from another dimension are wreaking havoc. Can the 7th Doctor educate a new Brigadier in the way of alien "diplomacy"? And can old Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart save the day one final time?

Since no stories from the 1966-1967 series are currently complete, the entire rest of the Ben & Polly stories will not air. During this gap, the Cybermen appear for the first time as villains, the Doctor has a "regeneration" and Patrick Troughton assumes the role, an 18th Century Scottish piper named Jamie joins the crew, and finally a Victorian girl named Victoria.
