TWIDW Update - SciFi Doctor Who Website Launches, Schedule Changes
(posted 25th Feb 2006, 1:18am - TWIDW post #0383)
Most of the readership already knows this, but for everyone who has
missed the big news today:
1) http://www.scifi.com/doctorwho is now live and full of information about the upcoming series, including trivia about Doctor Who old and new. It uses the latest version of flash and will load slowly on some computers. If you do now know the details of the 2005 series with Christopher Eccleston & Billie Piper yet, then beware - it includes spoilers. There is also a message board for fans who want to chat.
2) SciFi has revised the March broadcast schedule for Doctor Who,
presumably to try to give it a stronger premiere. The first 2
episodes will air as a movie, like Sci-Fi did with Battlestar
Galactica in January 2005 and Stargate Atlantis in July 2004. The
movie of Rose and The End Of The World will air twice in a row on
March 17, going from 9PM to 1AM. The episodes repeat together on
Sunday March 19 from 11PM to 1AM. Presumably Rose will air by itself
on a later date. The full schedule (Eastern Time Zone):
Friday, March 17:
8PM - Stargate SG-1 season 9 repeat
9PM - Doctor Who - Rose/The End Of The World movie broadcast
11PM - Doctor Who - Rose/The End Of The World movie broadcast
1AM - Stargate Atlantis season 2 repeat
Sunday, March 19:
11PM - Doctor Who - Rose/The End Of The World movie broadcast
Friday, March 24:
8PM - Doctor Who - The End Of The World
9PM - Doctor Who - The Unquiet Dead
10PM - Stargate Atlantis season 2 repeat
11PM - Stargate SG-1 season 9 repeat
Midnight - Doctor Who - The Unquiet Dead
1AM - Stargate Atlantis season 2 repeat
Sunday, March 26:
Midnight - Doctor Who - The Unquiet Dead
Friday, March 31:
8PM - Stargate SG-1 season 9 repeat
9PM - Doctor Who - Aliens Of London pt 1
10PM - Stargate Atlantis season 2 repeat
11PM - Stargate SG-1 season 9 repeat
Midnight - Doctor Who - Aliens Of London pt 1
1AM - Stargate Atlantis season 2 repeat
The April schedule should go online sometime next week, at which
time we should know if the Sunday broadcast is just a promotion to
help launch the show or a regular repeat time for the full run.
BTW, Doctor Who was appearing in the text that appears on the left
on Sci-Fi shows when they come out of commercials this past Tuesday
morning. It was spotted 3 times in the Passions broadcast - 9:20AM,
9:37AM, and 9:55AM Eastern on February 21. The text said simply
Doctor Who Premieres March 17 at 9PM/8C. A 15 second teaser
commercial for the Doctor Who run on Sci-Fi began airing late
Wednesday afternoon on the 22nd.
I think SciFi is going to make it a point to let its viewership know
that Doctor Who is coming next month. Here's hoping it gets a good
reception.
