Filming is officially underway on the Christopher Eccleston years of
Doctor Who. Outpost Gallifrey Http://www.gallifreyone.com and the
BBC's Doctor Who website http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/doctorwho have
pictures and info on the first days of filming in Cardiff. The BBC
Wales Today regional program on Tuesday showed viewers for the first
time what Christopher Eccleston's prospective Doctor outfit would
be - essentially a leather jacket and black shirt, a change from the
styles of recent Doctors. The Outpost Gallifrey forum has a
sealed "spoilers" section that you can log into and find out the
tidbits of information coming from Cardiff. If you wish to avoid
spoilers, do not access that section of the forum.
This Week will not be a big source of spoilers for the new episodes.
I want people who *don't* want to know what happens before they
watch to be able to use the column to find out when the episodes are
on just like everyone else. If you do want to know what's going to
happen, the aforementioned Outpost Gallifrey forum's spoiler section
is rather good and will no doubt mention other sources of advance
information.
Denver, CO Doctor Who fans - additional confirmation of Doctor Who's cancellation on KBDI 12 http://www.kbdi.org . I've been forwarded the following response to a query on whether the show can return:

We have no plans to renew the Dr. Who contract. Channel 12 has carried the series for 14 years and ran all the story lines several times in both the movie and episodic versions. We realize there is a core of very loyal viewers for this series, but over the years the audience has waned and the response has become lukewarm. Therefore, KBDI has chosen to end the series at this time and reinvest any future money in programming with a broader appeal.

We are aware the BBC is coming out with new episodes, but they will not make them available to other stations for at least 3 years.

The US Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour has been
going on for the last couple of weeks. The cable networks will get
their turn to show off their upcoming programming from July 21 to
July 23. If - and only if - the BBC has already made a deal with a
US cable network to air the new Doctor Who series, the network that
got the show might announce it during their portion of the tour this
week, along with some idea on when it would air. At this point I
suspect that no network deal has been finalized yet. Probably Doctor
Who will not be mentioned by anyone this time. The best sites I've
seen for information on that tour are http://www.thefutoncritic.com
and http://www.mediaweek.com . If anything is announced I'll send
out a note on the TWIDW mailing list.

Jon Pertwee would be 85 years old this month. In an epic broadcast
the length of The Green Death (2 ½ hours), Joey remembers the man
who was the 3rd Doctor. Includes thoughts on Jon from Caroline John,
Barry Letts, Wendy Padbury, Nicholas Courtney, Elisabeth Sladen,
Katy Manning, fan artist Gail Bennett, sea cruise fellow Dan Harris,
John Levene, and fan comments collected in 1996. Also some comments
on the unsuccessful effort to bring Worzel Gummidge to the USA. This
broadcast is dedicated to Jon Pertwee's favorite charity - the Grand
Order of Water Rats http://www.gowr.net . The Grand Order of Water
Rats is a UK charity that dates back to the 19th Century which
supports several causes, particularly actors who are no longer able
to act. Joey asks that people join the friends of GOWR and offer
some support. Membership in the GOWR is 30 Pounds UK. If you do,
please make sure to note on the check that you are doing it for Jon
Pertwee.

Wednesday The Android Invasion pts 1+2 of 4
Thursday The Android Invasion pts 3+4 of 4

Series 13, Episodes 13 through 16. Doctor: Tom Baker.
BBC Kids has this profound belief that Android Invasion must go between Terror Of The Zygons and Planet Of Evil, probably because Android is the final story for Harry Sullivan and the "recognizable" U*N*I*T cast. Anyway, after the events of Planet of Evil and Pyramids of Mars, the 4th Doctor and Sarah arrive back on modern day Earth. But an English village seems nearly deserted. The people there seem unreal.
Friday Planet of Evil pts 1+2 of 4
Series 13, Episodes 5 through 6. Doctor: Tom Baker.

Sunday Terror of the Zygons all 4 pts
Series 13, Episodes 1 through 4. Doctor: Tom Baker.
The Brigadier in a kilt. Body doubles. The Loch Ness Monster. And breathing techniques from the 4th Doctor. One of the better stories.
Monday Planet of Evil pts 3+4 of 4
Series 13, Episodes 7 through 8. Doctor: Tom Baker.
Tuesday Pyramids of Mars pts 1+2 of 4
Series 13, Episodes 9 through 10. Doctor: Tom Baker.
Before U*N*I*T HQ was built, the Scarman mansion stood on the grounds. Evil forces have taken control of the mansion, planning to release Sutekh the destroyer from his prison on Mars, an act that would wipe out much of the life in the universe. Which seems a little counterproductive. If everyone's dead, who are you going to turn to and say "told you I'd do it"?
